This is not a theoretical project, but a fully functional game that we are excited to bring to our players! The kickstarter itself will have a demo version of the book and a fun one-session module to try it out with! Again, Eureka has been fully developed and we can’t wait for you to play and tell us your thoughts! Everything is being tweaked and adjusted for your best experience. For now, here’s a peek at the Eureka System in which failure is not the end! And here’s a peek at the traits you use to turn your roleplay into gameplay! It should be noted that we have changed the names of the Holmes, Columbo, and Clouseau traits since these style-mock-up pages were created, to avoid any risk of potential copyright trouble once we actually start selling it. The new names of these traits still *reference* the legendary fictional detectives on which they were based, and their actual rules are unchanged. They still give your character the ability to act out some of these famous fictional detectives’ most iconic investigation habits. And I might as well just reveal the Columbo trait even though it is hidden here because these mock-up pages were meant for the ‘demo’ version of the rulebook we are going to give out for free. This trait is renamed to “Just One More Thing..” in the latest build of the game, and works very similarly to the Clouseau trait, except instead of constantly bumbling Knowledge skills(which are used for most crime scene investigation), the character with the Columbo or Just One More Thing trait would constantly bumble Interpersonal skills, which are used for getting useful information out of NPCs. At least, that’s what it looks like. Despite appearing to royally piss off all the suspects and witnesses with Failure after Failure in these skill rolls, the trait grants bonus Investigation Points. Investigation Points go into a bar that slowly fills up until you have 15 of them and then gain something called a Eureka. A Eureka can be spent on a couple of things, but one of those things is a sudden epiphany, or a eureka moment, that allows the investigator to take one previously Failed investigation roll and gain a clue from it as if it were a Full Success. So, the investigator with the Just One More Thing trait can appear to get nothing out of the suspects.. only to reveal later that he knew they were lying the whole time, and that their reactions to his obnoxious attitude and dumb questions really gave him just the evidence he needed. The Clouseau trait is the same, but for examining physical evidence. An investigator with this trait can appear to completely botch the crime scene investigation, only to come out on top with just the evidence he needs in a surprise twist later on.
